2023 has begun, and the tide wave of unrelenting amounts of music continues but I am here to help curate yr bandcamp Friday purchases.
The Drin - Today My Friend You Drunk The Venom
One could say I am biased cuz I did PR for this record but when Sam sent it to me few months back before I was signed on I was absolutely blown away. Something crazy is happening in Ohio right now for punk and avant music. The Drin have shades of punk, post punk, dub and krautrock but it's mushed together in a claustrophobic way. If you dig Exek, Anika and the Feel It Records roster......

Discount Heaven House Band - S/T
Goaty is a label to watch, releasing some really killer stuff in the last year like Darrell DeVore and Focus. The DHHB tape is another winner with this lowlit homespun lounge vibe. I particularly love the way the percussion sounds. It really reminds me of the Steve Hiett records that came out couple years ago but more lofi.

Soft Estate - The Painted Ship EP
Don't know much about this band outside this was put out on Loopsels (she rules) label who has released some cool stuff by Troth, Thomas Bush and Monokultur. This EP is mellow post punk in vien of Antena, and Solid Space. Great production, soothing vocals and tunes. Good golden hour music for yr bandcamp day.

Water Damage - Repeater
Ear splitting drone rock from TX, that just covers yr whole body in sound. These 3 tracks r feedback drenched pummel machines that just give me life. If yr into Jessamine, Bardo Pond or alot of that killer space rock on Kranky you'll loooooove this.

Spiny Anteaters - Current
Speaking of Kranky, as I said in my year end lists, I read the great book on the history of that seminal label who's releases have certainly informed so much of my taste and creativity over the years. One band who I'd never heard of was Spiny Anteaters who's primitive experimental indie rock has really spoken to me as of late. The bands songs on this record often stretch and pull with moments of emotional beauty, into moments of pure sonic violence. Maybe they'd hate this comparison but it's like if Yo La Tengo just leaned fully into Velvet Underground mode. The title track is amazing, the mid point where all the feedback is engulfing the mix is pure eurphia.

Tarotplane - Interior Prespectives
In the last year I stumbled upon Tarotplane do to a thread he wrote about krautrock, and I checked out his music and dug it immediately becuz it's very indebted to Ashra who I am a massssssive fan of. Most of his records are more or less in this vein of kosmiche. This record is a live recording, and it's quite beautiful and soothing to listen too...and I know cuz I did yesterday while sending out 100s of press emails lol. If you dig Ashra....there's like no way you won't dig this. Esp the blissful ending
