BCF Recommendations

Here's some recommendations for yr ear holes for this week's bandcamp Friday. First one I've done in a minute, been busy with Dummy and our upcoming EU/UK tour. Thank you to all whove listened.

Puli "Swirling"

A who's who of In Sheep Clothing universe, make up this experimental supergroup of sorts. Making dubby electronic post rock that feels somewhere between Basic Channel, Bark Pyschosis, and Steve Hiett. Groove forward that gets yr head bobbing but atmosphere that you can bathed in. The songs build with layers of vibed out soubd design, drones and immersive production. Highly recommend!

Skeet - "Simple Reality"

Early 80s obscure minimalist post punk from UK that sounds like Young Marble Giants.....well that's yes for me. Skeet has a vibe closer to Antena but without the Bossa influence and a more dub sound peaking out, esp with certain production choices. They were very short lived, only played 10 gigs. Imagine Maximum Joy but stripping it to its bare bones and you'd get Skeet. It's also released on the always reliable Efficient Space!

Closedown - "Dissolve"

Now, this is what I called a lost gem, LA's Closedown recently reissued mateial is ripe for discovery. Mixing sampling, FX and noise to make a possible lost classic. It's kinda of the perfect middle ground between Souvlaki and Pygmalion, hints of dub, post rock and idm in the mix. "Red Oval" is the real gem, a perfect mix of Seefeel electronics and Bowery Electric space rock. If yr sick of all the over hyped, over spoken about dream gaze pop whatever, here's something new to sink yr teeth into. Be stoned while listening lol.

Tile - "Warmfth"

Medium Sound is always releasing gems through the year, and this is no different. Tile makes what I would call ambient pop. Drifting Windy and Carl type drones, with some trip hop, sound collage and new age all wrapped up into this expansive cassette that will leave you floored. It's like if Bowery Electric just made 10 min long ambient pieces with a lucid song popping out at you for a couple minutes and dips back into the cosmos. This rules yall.

Shop Regulars - "Shop Regulars"

This is definitely in my top 5 of the year from these Portland punx. Sounding like a warped version of Television jamming with Can with hints of Flying Nuns ramshackled pop. It's all about locking into a groove, submitting yourself to it and reaching for rock n roll bliss. Repetition is the mode of operation, which as readers may know, is my shit. The guitar work is so free, the rhythm section pounding/ layered and the hooks subtle but impactful. Get into this masterful clanging.

Mo Dotti - "Opaque"

Best shoegaze record of the year, any other answer is wrong. SORRY.

Smoke Bellow - "Structurally Sound"

The world is an unjust place, and will likely never be just, and one small reason is that Smoke Bellow will never get the recognition they deserve as one of the best bands of the last decade. This record is their final release, I'm sure they will all go and make new music, and I'm stoked to hear what they do. This record out soon on Moon Glyph continues the sound of their last record with some new ideas peaking though, esp toward the 2nd half of the record where a more minimalist composer influence shines through. I cannot recommend this bands whole discography and it's personally heartbreaking they are done becuz they are a huge influence on Dummy.

J. Mcfarlane's Reality Guest - "Whoopee"

Twerps were a rare "indie pop" band I liked, great guitar work and melodies. That band is done, but we gain JMFRG, who makes woozy dubbed out Broadcastian ambient pop. This definitely is some dreamy surreal phreak shit that has 90s breaks, tripped out production and melodies that are sticky as hell.
